Yesterday we had our last comp for the year, the NSW BJJF Summer Cup.
Congratulations to everyone who competed and represented us with pride.
A big thank you goes out to all the parents, family and friends that came to support our athletes and cheered them on.
Our kids and teens did very well, their development and growth was visible in every one of their matches.
Some had great luck and others didn’t, but that’s sports, and we continue the journey together.
Just remember, every time you step onto the mats and give it your best, you do us and yourselves proud.
We couldn’t ask for more than that.
One particular highlight was young Riley in his gold medal match.
Riley’s match can only be described as a lightning finish, showcasing a fast wrestling takedown and sharp submission skills.
Congratulations on your well-deserved win, Riley.
We also need to congratulate all our competitors and medallists:
In the adult divisions, congratulations to Navin who won his first match in the purple belt gi division.
He had a war in his second match, but just fell short and landed a silver medal.
Nav then came back with vengeance in a spectacular no-gi match to secure the gold medal.
Well done Nav, keep up the tremendous effort.
The most dominant performance in the whole tournament would have to be Matthew Becvarov.
Matty won three divisions: the purple belt gi and no-gi in his weight categories, and the no-gi open weight.
He won both the gi and no-gi weight divisions by submitting his opponents, and in the open weight final, Matty won with a 20-point lead.
Quite a remarkable result considering he got graded to purple only six months ago.
Amazing effort and congratulations on the triple gold Matty.
Looking forward to cheering on more competitors and rising up even more as a team next year.
